  • 1. Phonetics

    Learning Phonetics means connecting listened words with storys and pictures, all at once while reading/watching/hearing.
  • Creating new accounts in your TL is an rudimentory part of language immersion.
  • You can use everything podcasts; books; youtube; streaming services; blogs; comics; audiobooks
  • Read child books in your TL (visual information supports following the story)
  • Watch videos or blogs about grammer, which means, sounds, pronounciation and listening examples.
  • Try Shadowing, its attempting to say exactly what they say, exactly how they say it, in real-time
  • Listen to the audio from youtube, so you can hear the words you’re learning in your vocab software (e.g anki)
  • Learning pitch accent (pitch accent = PER-fect” is an adjective, while “per-FECT” is a verb)
  • When using subtitles (only TL), use a monolingual pop-up dictionary's to look up words and create SRS cards out of them.
  • Make grammer notes.

    After you found material to watch use (dual-) subtitels and pop-up dictionaries for sentence mining (the act of creating cards out of sentences)

  • Each card should have a word, an example sentence, a definition, and ideally, audio for the word/sentence (use tool Forvo).
  • Passive vocab is vocab you understand but can't build sentences with
  • Aim for an 1000 card deck, which covers 70% of daily conv.
  • Start with 10 new cards with about 70 reviews per day.
  • Make cards without translations in your NL (native language) but with pictures
  • 3. Grammatics

    The best way to learn grammar, is to use it in a sentence, obiviously. This can made be done be writing, the level before speaking.

  • Write out full sentences.
  • Find yourself a "language parent" to speak with and that corrects you.
  • You will gain an intuitive understanding of the language so that you can speak correctly without needing to think about grammar.
  • Writing is also a crucial part of grammar learning.
