There are three parts to active study:

Phonetics (immersion, listening comprehension) Vocabulary (expanding immersionw with tools) Grammar (creating output with writing)

1. Phonetics

Phonetics is connecting listened words with storys and pictures, all at once while reading or watching or hearing. - Creating new accounts in your TL is an rudimentory part of language immersion - You can use everything podcasts; books; youtube; streaming services; blogs; comics; audiobooks - Read child books in your TL (visual information supports following the story) - Watch videos or blogs about grammer, which means, sounds, pronounciation and listening examples - Try Shadowing, its attempting to say exactly what they say, exactly how they say it, in real-time - Listen to the audio from youtube, so you can hear the words you’re learning in your vocab softwaare (e.g anki) - Learning pitch accent (pitch accent = PER-fect” is an adjective, while “per-FECT” is a verb) - When using subtitles (only TL), use a monolingual (TL only) pop-up dictionary (e.g goldendict) to look up words and create srs cards out of them - Make grammer notes

2. Vocabulary

After you found material to watch use (dual-) subtitels and pop-up dictionaries for sentence mining (the act of creating cards out of sentences) - Each card should have a word, an example sentence, a definition, and ideally, audio for the word/sentence. - Passive vocab is vocab you understand but can't build sentences with - Aim for an 1000 card deck, which covers 70% of daily conv. - Start with 10 new cards with about 70 reviews per day. - Make cards without translations in your NL (native language) but with pictures

3. Grammatics

The best way to learn grammar, is to use it in a sentence, obiviously. This can made be done be writing, the level before speaking.

- write out full sentences

- Find yourself a "language parent" to speak with and that corrects you

- You will gain an intuitive understanding of the language so that you can speak correctly without needing to think about grammar

- Writing is also a part of grammar learning
